Snyders Review and Giveaway

We got a ton of stuff from Snyder's of Hanover to review. I wish I had a picture! There was so much that we just now got done sampling everything they sent! Oh, but so good. I love pretzels but if you think Snyder's is just pretzels, think again!

There is a commercial for **** that says you can't eat just one. Well, it should be for Snyders! Right now, I'm eating the Honey Mustard & Onion Nibblers. I didn't think they'd be that good….but now that I've finished a 1/2 bag, I have to change my mind Smile  My favorite, though, has to be the Butter Snaps. Or maybe, it's the Peanut Butter Sandwiches.

They've also got chips. Who knew?  They are also conscious of the crowd that needs gluten free products. They make gluten free pretzels! They make organic!

Pretzel recipes? They have 'em. Who would have thought you could use pretzels in macaroni and cheese? Or in a main meal? You should really check out what you can do with Snyder's products.

I also like the Frequent Snacker Rewards program.  After you enjoying eating Snyder's snacks, save the UPC codes and get great stuff! Pretzels had their beginning around 610 A.D. somewhere in Southern France or Northern Italy. Historians believe, although cannot authenticate, that the pretzel came to America by way of the Mayflower in 1620. There are stories of early settlers selling the treat to Indians, who would pay any price for them.

In the 1920's, Grandma Eda and Edward Snyder II began frying potato chips in a kettle at their home on Centennial Avenue during the summer months and peddling the home cooked snack door-to-door and to fairs and farmers' markets. Their son, William V., and his wife Helen made angel food cakes in their basement for local stores. In 1924, the families combined their home businesses and Snyder’s Bakery took up residence at the rear of 238 Centennial Avenue. In a unique product combination, the bakery produced noodles to use the egg yolks left over from the angel food cakes. This efficient process continued into the 1960s, when the automated process for snack production took over. To extend the shelf life of his product for these distant markets, they began to use aluminum foil bags, becoming the first chipper to implement this creative yet practical innovation.

The hard pretzel had its beginnings in Pennsylvania. One story tells of a baker's apprentice who dozed off while baking soft pretzels. The fire in the hearth died down and he awoke with a start, thinking that the pretzels had not been baked long enough. He fired up the furnace again, baking them twice as long as necessary. When the master baker found out, he was outraged at the "ruined" pretzels. Then, out of curiosity he tasted them. To his delight, he discovered they were crisp, crunchy and delicious. What especially pleased him was that the new hard pretzels also retained their freshness much longer.

Today, the center of pretzel history in America still resides in Pennsylvania where the first commercial bakery was founded in the small town of Lititz in 1861.

Snyder's commitment to quality continues this tradition with heeding to the public need of gluten free products, great tasting chips and snacks and the almighty pretzel. They have so much going on at their website. Snyder's of Hanover is more than just pretzels. It is publicly conscious company that listens, offers a place for a community, and is just plain FUN.
